VF Corporation

Dear Talent Acquisition Specialist at VF Corporation,

My life experience and education helped me to thrive as an artist, business woman, and creative director at the company that I founded and built in Denver, in 2011, VANDER JACKET. The role of Associate Designer of Women’s Apparel at The North Face is a role that I am familiar with, because of my years as the designer behind our clothing brand, and yet this job role will require me to work in dynamic groups with other designers, which is what I am looking for. I closed the doors of my business in May, because I want to work alongside other designers, to learn from them, and to combine my innovation and experience with theirs under the care of an established and cherished brand—one that I don’t have to lead!

Collaboration has been a rewarding experience for me: One tier of VANDER JACKET design was high-end, highly personal, custom apparel options. I was able to meet with clients and help them articulate the custom running apparel that they wanted. I learned so much by meeting my customers face to face, and working through design problems with them. They were my bosses: I submitted sketches to them directly, and helped them express their needs, which I in turn revised and drew. Ultimately, I created rabid advocates for my brand, because of the apparel that I constructed for my custom customers.

I also found immense joy by collaborating with the Leadville outdoors apparel company, Melanzana, who gave me hundreds of yards of their patented deadstock fleece fabric yearly so that I could create small batches of running apparel. Because of local connections and the history of The North Face, I know that you value the same resourceful creation that I am naturally inclined to.

I want to support senior designers to carry out their vision for The North Face. I would love to interview for the job of Associate Designer of Women’s Apparel. I relish the chance to bolster the team that is already in place. I am a person who believes that collaboration is the heartbeat of world changing design.

Thank you for considering me--my alternative CV and design path notwithstanding. I appreciate your time very much,

Sincerely,

Sarah Vander Neut
