Seasonal change, decay, and biodegradation are front and center in the ancient story of Jeremiah. In the Jewish scriptures, Jeremiah is directed by God to create an experiment that requires time, the seasons, and clothing. By buying, wearing, burying, digging up, and wearing again a “loincloth” Jeremiah acts out his own ancient performance art, with God as the art director. My painting represents a modern depiction of this ancient story found in Jeremiah Chapter 13.
